Small things

How to release the yarn from a sweater.

Craft Pop is a new arts and crafts links directory brought to us by Quidnunc.org. There's a lot of stuff here that I hadn't seen before - Go explore a bit then add your site! (P.S. There's a separate section for weblogs.)

Older guest map entries are here for want of another place to put them.

Important

I'm a happy, healthy survivor of breast cancer at age 25 thanks to early detection by breast self-exam.

It is my most profound wish that all women, everywhere, do breast self-exams every month.
Here's how.
The most important thing is that you learn to know your own body and what is normal for you so that you can tell when something has changed.

I'm going on a trip (tomorrow) and while I'm there I'll be using blogger to post

over here.

Come on over! Find out if I get anything done on the Must Have Cardigan and see how many yarn shops I manage to visit in western North Carolina!

Proof that I am knitting...

It seems I'm turning into a real Norwegian which means one must not be inside if it's the least bit warm outside. This picture was at Tae Kwon Do summercamp - in case you can't see well enough that's a blue belt under there. ;o)

Oh, and it's the alpaca cardigan's second front I'm working on.

Saturday June 5, 2004

No real knitting content, 'cept that I got the back of the lacy alpaca cardigan finished. It's appallingly huge but apparently it's meant to be - the body's supposed to be wide and short, but man it doesn't look right.

Update (posted at 3:13pm)

Oh heck... I decided you guys need to know what I mean by huge. I measured it and it's a whopping 29 inches across. Surely that can't be right? (Yet the pattern says the circumference is supposed to be 60 inches for the med/large (58 for the sm/med) so I guess so. Wow!

Anyway, here's some answers to questions you didn't ask.

What was the last..

..book you read: The last book I finished was A Son of the Circus by John Irving. The last book I read was A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth. I've put it down about a week ago and haven't picked it up again though I do plan to read the rest.
..movie you saw: Jane Austen's Mafia on television last night.
..movie you saw on the big screen: Hidalgo
..show you watched on tv: Flog It on BBC.
..song you heard: Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood
..thing you had to drink: Appelsin saft (a juice like concentrate that you blend with water - this was orange flavored)
..thing you ate: a piece of toast with homemade grape jelly that my mother made from grapes they grow. Num.
..time you showered: last night
..time you smiled: earlier this afternoon
..time you laughed: earlier this afternoon
..person you hugged: my husband
..person you talked to online: Mona
..person you talked to on the phone: my Mom

Do you..

..sleep with stuffed animals? not anymore, no
..play an instrument? I can play the flute and the piano, but neither very well.
..believe there is life on other planets? Hmmm...
..read the newspaper? no, not really
..believe in miracles? yes
..consider yourself tolerant? yes
..consider police a friend or foe? mostly "friend"... when they're behind me and I'm driving they're mostly "foe"
..believe in astrology? hmmm... no.
..believe in magic? I'd very much like to and do, most of the time.
..go to church? Not regularly recently but I'd
..have any secrets? Oh goodness yes.
..have any pets? 1 - the fighting fish pictured in the upper left hand corner of this page.
..go or plan to attend college? I have attended college, yes.
..talk to strangers? Rarely if there's no reason to. If there's a reason to, then yes.
..have any piercings? yes - 2 in each ear.
..have any tattoos? Nope
..hate yourself? Nope
..wish on stars? Yep
..like your handwriting? Not particularly, no.
..believe in witches? No, not really.
..believe in ghosts? No, not really.

The Red Cross is offering a chance to buy a commemorative knitting kit based on the WWII "Knit Your Bit" campaign. Some more information (plus a picture of what's inside the tin box!) is at this thread at Glitter. The kit itself is available here. (I want one.)
