Oh, screw it. I didn't finish my Christmas projects, but that's no reason not to start something new, now is it.
And fortunately, Kate's been as wonderful with
organizing as usual! Even
working out the numbers for realistically sized people. (Bless her.)
I did make a button...
and a
yahoo! Must Have Cardi support group, here.
and a swatch. Whoo hoo! And it's almost a new year!

Further temptation to join the Must Have Cardigan knit-a-long here.
And, finally, a view of my current WIP, a short, wide lace cardigan in alpaca from Du Store Alpakka ::

I received a very lovely and helpful email from Mary with the following information about the Quoyle Sweater (the one Kevin Spacey wore in The Shipping News)::
...the sweater that she is looking for is very similar to a Yankee Knitting Pattern.
You can see the pattern at this address...
it is called the Roll Raglan and looks pretty easy to knit.
I live in Atlantic Canada and had the pleasure of visiting Newfoundland two summers ago where the Woof store was displaying
the sweater, I imagine that the wool used was from Briggs and Little a small mill in New Brunswick...
the wool is very reasonably priced, especially when one considers the
value of the Canadian dollar (more the woe for us).
Cool, eh?
(I'm still rather obsessed feeling about getting a picture of Mr. Spacey in the sweater... I think I'm going to have to rent the movie...)
And Kate and I are in the pre-planning stages of a knit-a-long of Paton's Must Have Cardigan
from Street Smart pattern book.
Best seen as a current WIP over at Steph's! Want to join in some after-Christmas self-indulgence?
I'm thinking Garnstudio Karisma... Ooooo.
I wish I could show what I'm working on currently ... I just can't seem to get any good pictures what with the sun setting at 3:31 pm. (Will I ever get used to this?)

Contest ends November 23... Vote now! (see 11.13 entry for details)
I got an email from Chrystal about the lace in a scarf
I made from in some lovely cashmere yarn some time ago.
So I whipped up a little chart for the lace pattern, called "Horseshoe Pattern" in Barbara Walker's
A Treasury of Knitting Patterns ::
I just got a tag-board question about the sweater Kevin Spacey wore in The Shipping News
(Of which the book is sooo much better.)
and found this:
The Halifax Daily News Tuesday, December 11,
2001
Shipping News keepsake warms
Newfoundland company
knits 412 sweaters
ST. JOHN'S, Nfld. (CP)--A Newfoundland company has
knitted 412 sweaters for the entire cast and crew of The Shipping News, a
Hollywood movie that was partly filmed in the province.
Woof Designs of St. John's has been rushing to have the sweaters ready for the cast party of
the film tomorrow. The film is scheduled to open in theatres on Christmas Day.
It was also filmed in Halifax.
The fisherman-style sweaters with slightly
rolled necks will be similar to the one used to outfit star Kevin Spacey in the
lead role of Quoyle.
I also found Woof Design but no sweater matching the description.
Now I'm curious... anybody seen a picture of this sweater floating around online?

I'm climbing on the bandwagon and going on a yarn diet. I suppose I would describe my stash as "average" (of course I haven't gone through it lately) but
I don't have a handle on the projects I've buried there. Perhaps I'll go through it and see if I have anything to offer up for stash diving!
Go here now and vote for my step-kid to win a
Popstar contest from the Norwegian FoxKids channel. The page is in Norwegian, but it's not difficult :: Find her (she's the only Amalie) and
slide the button towards the smiley face (preferably all the way!) and hit Stem. The prize is a "MegaPop Party" at Peppe's Pizza and ...well, she'll
be ecstatic!

Several A couple of unrelated things
Speaking of Nordic films, I saw Mors Elling last week.
It was good for a while, then fell apart rather completely. (One of the ladies from
work actually fell asleep in the theater -- not a good sign.)
But I see that Elling (chronologically later, made earlier Academy Award nominee) is
available at Amazon
(and Blockbuster! apparently) and is well worth watching.
An American remake is apparently in the works... as much as I dearly love Ed Norton, I'm having a difficult time seeing him as
Kjell Bjarne.
Even more unrelately, this movie looks like one I'm going to want to watch: Gunnar goes comfortable.
Robin's obsession with Personality Tests has finally worn me down ::
ISFP - "Artist". Interested in the fine arts. Expression primarily through action or art form. The senses are keener than in other types. 8.8% of total population.
I remember taking a much longer paper version of this test while working on psych, but I don't remember the results. Phooey.

We finally saw the Swedish movie Kopps last night. It's by the same people that made
Jalla Jalla! which just gets better and better each time I see it.
Okay, we'll need a bit of setup here::
One of the cops is Benny, who imagines himself to a seriously tough guy.
Sort of a John McClane meets Neo type deal. Not too far into the movie Benny storms his (own) apartment, leaping over furniture, waving his gun about and
calling for backup. The very next scene (and the cause of me almost falling off the sofa laughing) features Benny
counting stitches on his balcony,
knitting up
individualized head bands for his colleagues.
(And, finally,a close up... apparently knitting continentally.)
Warning: that last link makes lots of popups, but has lots of good stuff too.

Here (finally!) is a picture of the Pippi Kneestockings I knit up for Deb. The ones in the book
were knitted up in the US of yarn more readily available there
(Nature Spun Sport).
The ones I knit were of Silja sock yarn by Gjestal - an 80% superwash wool, 20% nylon, which is readily available here.
(De betaler NKr. 33 og oppover for en nøste Silja der borte forresten...)
These are the colors, in case you're interested! (available at jklneedles.com. Tell 'em I sent ya.)
This is a weblog. It's mine. It tends to be about knitting
with occasional ramblings about my experience living in Norway.
(Sometimes it's the other way 'round.) Want to know more? Read
this! :O)
